Attica race has everything, from domination to the strange

ATTICA -- There was domination, strangeness and downright good racing Saturday at the Attica Raceway Park.

The domination came from Byron Reed, who led the 25-lap Super Sprint feature from green flag to checkered.

The strangeness involved Jeremy Durst losing his hood on the very first turn of the Econo Sprint.

And the downright good racing came courtesy of Limited Late Model point champ Wayne Maffett Jr., who came from the last starting spot to not only win his race but also pick up a $100 bonus.

Reed was uncatchable and unstopable in the Super Sprint race, slipping by fellow front-row starter Alvin Roepke at the start and never looking back.

Chad Kemenah started 10th and fought his way through the crowd to eventually take second while Mark Keegan, Butch Schroeder and Jason Dukes slugged it out for third.

Schroeder won the battle, slipping by Keegan for third with Dukes coming in fifth.

The Econo Sprint got off to a strange start when the hood of Durst's car disintegrated as everyone entered the first turn.

Unaffected, Durst took an early lead and was soon hounded by Lee Potter, Troy Vaccaro and points champion Jody Keegan.

Durst would bow out of the race, with Keegan slipping by the field for the victory. Potter hung on for second and Vaccaro was third.

Maffett may have turned in the best night of racing, choosing to start dead last in the Limited Late Model race for a chance at a $100 bonus for winning.

The gamble paid off, as Maffett threaded his way through the field, which was thinned out by three when John Bores, Roger Inks and Brian Lykins all wiped out on turn No. 1 during the race.

Maffett still had to make two great passes against Mike Lonas and Mike Marteney to earn the win late in the race. Marteney took second and Dale Aikman was third.
