Falcons come back to clip Mohawk
SYCAMORE -- Riverdale ruined Mohawk's opener with a pair of tight wins in the second and third games as the Falcons came back to beat the Warriors, 8-15, 15-13, 15-13.
"We didn't play badly," Mohawk coach Millie Roper said. "We hit the ball and covered the floor pretty well the entire match, and it was a real battle. We've got a young, young team, so this is good for them to be in a match this close right away. This will prepare them for later in this season and later in their careers.
"We pulled together and did a nice job of communicating, which had been a problem up until now."
Erin Bates led Mohawk in the scoring column with 12 points, and senior Gail Kingseed, the only returning letterwinner for the team, was 17-17 serving and 34-37 hitting. Kingseed finished with nine points, an ace, 14 kills, six blocks and 14 digs.
