College soccer
Dragons burn Cedarville
They had a slow start, but once the Tiffin University women's soccer team got rolling against Cedarville, they didn't look back, winning the match 6-1. They won their second straight American Mideast Conference game, improving to 2-0 in the AMC and 6-1 overall.
Powered by two goals from Elizabeth Wead, the Dragons racked up five scores in the second half. Cedarville took an early 1-0 lead and held on for a 1-1 ballgame going into the intermission.
"We didn't play with much intensity in the first half," coach James Walker said. "We went 10 days without a game and we came out a little sluggish. We were stuck in first gear the first half and we went into fifth in the second and really left them behind."
Carola Anderson scored TU's first goal to tie the game. Then early in the second half, Julie Metzger gave the Dragons the lead for good.
Jamie Long added a second half goal and Alexis Morell ended the scoring to ice the victory.
Rachel Keihl and Amanda Hutto split time in goal for the Dragons.
'Berg soccer still perfect in OAC
Two goals in a seven-minute span were enough for the Heidelberg women's soccer team as they downed Otterbein 2-1 in a home OAC match.
The 'Berg is now 2-0 in conference play and 8-2 overall. Otterbein drops to 1-1 (6-2).
Casei Castner scored with 31 minutes left off a Lisa Schneider corner kick. Molly Thorton took a crossing pass from Jen Seminario and scored with 24 minutes remaining.
The Cardinals picked up a goal in the 37th minute of the second half. They had outshot 'Berg 6-3 in the first half.
Julia Rose made 11 saves in goal for Heidelberg.
"We're glad to be 2-0 going into the toughest part of our conference," coach John Hall said. "Today's game wasn't pretty, actually it was downright ugly at times, but we got the win.
"We have yet to put it all together this season. We have a little way to go yet, but once we put it together somebody is going to get hurt."
The 'Berg takes on Ohio Northern on Saturday in the first of four straight key OAC contests 2 p.m. at Mayer Field.
