Tornadoes blow by Bellevue

BELLEVUE &emdash; It was the top of the Northern Ohio League versus the bottom Tuesday when Columbian traveled to Bellevue for tennis. And in the end, nothing changed.

Columbian whitewashed the Redmen 5-0 to move to 11-0 in the league and 13-2 overall. Bellvue fell to 0-11 in the NOl and 1-11 overall.

The closest Columbian came to dropping a match was at No. 1 singles, where Michelle Maxwell gave the Tornadoes a 6-1, 6-4 win.

Rachel Banks and Rutu Dalal took the No. 2 and No. 3 singles matches, respectively, by identical 6-2, 6-2 scores.

The No. 1 doubles duo of Stephanie Kissell and Lara Ellinger cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory while the No. 2 team of Amber Shellhammer and Rachel Lape won 6-0, 6-1.

Senecas club Bulldogs

Calvert used solid play by all of its players to post a 5-0 win over Crestline Tuesday in tennis action.

The Senecas improved to 9-1 with the win.

No. 1 singles player Mary Kin and No. 2 player Alison Welly each won their matches 6-3, 6-2. Katie Kerschner claimed the No. 3 singles match 7-5, 6-1.

In doubles action, Jenny Haley and Theresa Vela earned a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 1 while the No. 2 squad of Jen Boes and Marcia Corthell were 6-0, 6-0 winners.

The Senecas next take the courts to host Mansfield St. Pete, with Ontario coming to town Thursday for Parents Night.
