Baugher, Berger are players of the week

Calvert's Marc Baugher and Matt Berger of Seneca East are the Midland Athletic League Players of the Week.

Baugher was tabbed for Offensive Player of the Week, running the ball 20 times for 130 yards and three touchdowns in a 53-22 Calvert win over Fremont St. Joseph. Baugher, who has helped lead the Senecas to an 8-1 record and a 5-1 MAL mark, also caught a pass for 27 yards. He stands fourth in the MAL in rushing with 723 yards on 125 carries. Baugher has thrown for 382 yards and three touchdowns and caught five passes for 43 yards, is second in the MAL in scoring with 80 points and has intercepted six passes on the defensive end.

Berger made 22 tackles, five of them solo and two of them for losses, in Seneca East's 24-0 loss to Hopewell-Loudon. He was named Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts. Offensively, the fullback has scored 23 points, second on his team, and tied for second in receptions for the Tigers (4-5, 1-5 MAL) with 10 catches for 83 yards.

Calvert will try to earn a share of its fourth MAL title in a row Friday night when it hosts Mohawk. Seneca East finishes the season at home against St. Wendelin.
