'Berg women stay perfect

CINCINNATI -- Heidelberg women might decide to stay on the road after the early success they've had this season.

The unbeaten 'Berg made it three in a row Tuesday with a 75-64 win over Mount St. Joe.

Amanda Ellison and Rachael Poland each tallied 21 points to lead the way while Nicole Camper also hit doubles with 13 points. Mount St. Joe, 1-2, was led by Rebecca Petty with 20 points while Shauna Bemmes had 18 and Patricia Heard followed with 11.

Heidelberg had a 33-28 lead at intermission and continued to pull away in the final 20 minutes.

They were 32-of-67 from the floor and added 9-of-20 from the free throw line while St. Joe was 22-of-56 from the field and 17-of-22 at the line.

Again, Heidelberg ruled the boards by a 41-31 count with Mandy Fillman leading the way with nine and Megan Peregord grabbed eight. The 'Berg also committed just 13 turnovers while St. Joe was guilty of 20.

TU women fall to 1-1

Tiffin University suffered a 55-53 nail-biting loss to Indiana Tech Tuesday night.

The Dragons were plagued by poor free throw shooting in losing for the first time this season.

"We were only 8-for-19 for the game and 6-of-17 in the second half," said TU head coach Leslie Mugg. "If we had made some of our free throws it wouldn't have been that close."

Jacki Swaisgood (Clyde) led the way for the Dragons with 17 points and six rebounds while Melanie Sears (Columbian) had 14 points and eight rebounds and Jill Moldenhauer followed with eight points and eight rebounds. Laura Goins also had seven points, four rebounds and six assists.

"We came back in the second half but just didn't have enough," said Mugg. "We also missed a tremendous number of layups and hopefully we can learn from this."

Indiana Tech improved to 4-2 while the Dragons, 1-1, will open their home campaign Tuesday against Huntington College in the first part of a doubleheader at 5 p.m. The TU men will battle Shawnee State in the second half at 7 p.m.
