Ross foils great first meet effort by Trumble

FREMONT -- Greg Trumble won one individual race, took second in another and helped a Columbian relay team finish second in his first-ever high school swim meet and Richie Martin swam to victory in two races, but Fremont Ross upended the Tornadoes 64-29 to open the boys swim season Wednesday.

In the girls meet, Ross downed Columbian 72-22.

Trumble won the boys 200 freestyle in 2:50.76 and was second to Martin in the 50 free (34.88).

Martin posted a winning time of 25.56 in the 50 free and also took the 100 free in 1:00.53.

Andrew Greene, Eric Goshe, Trumble and David Cantley were second in the 200 free relay (2:02.35).

Goshe, Greene, Cantley and Martin teamed up for third in the 200 medley relay (2:15.84) while Richie, Goshe, Jon Seeberger and Trumble finished third in the 400 free (5:00.03).

Greene claimed second in the 100 butterfly (1:13.34) and third in the 100 breaststroke (1:22.43), Cantley added a third in the 200 IM (2:43.81) and the 100 fly (1:26.39), Goshe was third in the 100 free (1:15.98), Seeberger clocked in third in the 100 back (1:34.56) and in the 500 free (7:57.97) and Matt Lofton came in third in the 200 free (3:18.24) and fourth in the 100 back (1:46.61).

Jackie Comer swam to victory in the 100 fly in 1:10.91 and took second in the 200 IM (2:36.57) to lead Columbian's girls.

Katie Decker was second in the 200 free (2:13.88) and the 500 free (6:06.62), Janet Baker came in second in the 100 back (1:20.92) and third in the 100 free (1:11.99), Erin Harper claimed fourth in the 200 free (2:58.45) and the 100 fly (1:38.92), Michelle Brashares finished third in the 50 free (32.08) and fourth in the 100 back (1:25.78), Carrie Smith took third in the 100 breast (1:41.9) and fourth in the 50 free (37.25), Meryl Baker swam to fourth in the 500 free (8:24.96) and the 100 breast (1:42.35), Emily Graham picked up a fourth in the 100 free (1:27.34).

Columbian's 200 medley relay A team of Brashares, Decker, Comer and Black was third (2:15.72) while the B team of Graham, Smith, Harper and Baker was fourth (2:41.2).

Harper, Smith, Graham and Baker came in third in the 200 free relay (2:17.61) and Decker, Comer, Brashares and Black were third in the 400 free relay (4:37.25).

Calvert drops opening swim meets

Calvert's swim teams dropped their season-opening meets Wednesday, with Toledo St. John's downing the boys 112-37 while Toledo Notre Dame beat Calvert's girls 122-22.

Andy Haines and Chris Johnson both gave Calvert two boys victories.

Haines captured the 200 IM in 2:18.6 and the 100 freestyle in 53.12 while Johnson won the 50 free in 23:58 and the 100 butterfly in 59.3.

They were helped by Chris Zoeller and Zack Firestone taking second in the 200 free relay (1:48.32).

Firestone, Zoeller and Johnson also swam on the third place 200 medley relay (2:18) with Walter Marchi.

Firestone added a third in the 500 free (7:35.02) and fourth in the 200 IM (2:56.57) and Marchi had a fifth in both the 50 free (34.77) and the 100 free (1:21.97).

Jesse Ewald had the top girls finish for Calvert, taking second in 100 breaststroke (1:12.63).

She was also fourth in the 500 free (6:17.78) and helped Haley Kuhn, Rebeka Shook and Erin Schumm clock in third in the 200 medley relay (2:45.54).

Calvert's 200 free relay A team of Mianda McGee, Allie Pastorella, Kuhn and Anna Feasel finished third (2:19.45) while the B team of Theresia Saurer, Tiffany Newland, Katie Schwalik and Silvia Zerpa was sixth (2:49.98).

Schwalik added fourths in the 50 free (34.06) and 100 free (1:26.97), Pastorella was fourth in the 200 free (2:58.17), Feasel captured fourth in the 100 backstroke (1:14.6) and sixth in the 200 IM (2:45.49), Saurer was fifth in the 50 free (38.88), McGee ended up fifth in the 100 back (2:02.13), Kuhn was fifth in the 100 breast (1:41.78), Shook finished fifth in the 100 free (1:33.92) and sixth in the 100 breast (2:17.64) and Newland came in sixth in the 100 free (1:49.75).
