New Riegel outscored Hopewell
BASCOM &emdash; New Riegel outscored Hopewell-Loudon by 15 points in the second quarter Tuesday to power past the Chieftains 55-43 in a non-league matchup of the Midland Athletic League backyard rivals.
Hopewell-Loudon (10-7) led 9-7 after the first quarter, but New Riegel cranked up the offense to take a 27-15 halftime lead. Both teams scored 28 points in the second half.
Brett Hammer was the main weapon for the Blue Jackets (15-3), scoring a game-high 20 points.
Steve Tiell hauled in 14 rebounds and Ryan Bumb had 10 more for New Riegel, which controlled the boards by a 39-27 margin.
Hopewell-Loudon was paced by Neil Harber's 18 points and nine rebounds.
Scott Elchert tossed in 12 points and Andy Hiser grabbed 10 rebounds.
