Rams trim Tornadoes for NOL win

UPPER SANDUSKY &emdash; Upper Sandusky plated a pair of unearned runs in the first inning and added another score in the third to edge Columbian 3-2 Thursday in Northern Ohio League action.

"It was raining and we didn't handle it very well, and we didn't get timely hitting tonight," Columbian coach Mike Hammp said. "And they (Rams) played a great game. We had one bad inning and that killed us."

Upper Sandusky's first two batters, Rondi Niederkohr and Leslie Foust, got on base and scored in the first inning, with Foust denting the plate again in the third inning.

Both ended with a single while Katie Stump lined two doubles and Rachel Roush singled for the Rams (5-7 overall, 2-4 NOL).

Stacy Barth earned the win by scattering six hits and two walks.

Anna Fretz (2-1) was saddled with the loss after lasting 2 2/3 innings. Just one of the three runs she gave up was earned.

Erin Rupp relieved her, fanning seven and giving up just two hits to shut down Upper Sandusky from there.

Kaila Dunn singled twice and scored for the Tornadoes (5-2, 4-2) while Katie Fazekas singled and scored. Nicki Kuhn and Sara Theis each drove in a run and hit a single and Lisa Hess singled.

Columbian travels to Ashland Saturday.
