Calvert overcomes Bettsville
Calvert quickly overcame an early deficit with a 6-run second inning, adding five more runs in the later innings for an 11-3 win over Bettsville.
The Bobcats (1-4 MAL), who fell back to the .500 mark and are now 7-7, had taken a 3-run lead. Eddie Sisco singled in Nick Baker in the first inning and Jon Rollins brought in two more runs with his bases-loaded single in the second.
"They got off to a good start and caught us sleeping in the first," said Calvert coach Rick Demith, whose team improved to 3-1 in the MAL and 5-3 overall with the win. "We didn't get the ball into the infield and their kid scored from first on a single."
The Senecas responded by loading the bases in the bottom of the second. A fielder's choice, error, and two hit batters chased Bettsville starter Jon Rollins. Adam Reinhart then singled off reliever Eddie Sisco to plate two more runs.
Calvert starter Ben Stover (3-1) allowed just two more hits after that, and Reinhart put the game away by blasting a three-run homer in the fifth off Sisco.
"Scoring six runs in the second really helped us," Demith said. "Adam's home run was real shot in the arm for us. He's starting to make real solid contact."
Gino Paulus (double) and Brad Elchert (double, three runs) both rapped three hits. Reinhart, Scott Maiberger and Ryan Kessler each added two, while Stover scored twice.
Baker had two hits for the Bobcats.
