Conduah, Hothem named Academic All-Americans

Heidelberg seniors Joe Conduah and Seth Hothem have wrapped up their collegiate careers by being named to the 2000 GTE/CoSIDA Academic All-America College Division Men's Spring At-Large National Team.

Conduah was a first team choice while Hothem was a second team selection.

This marks the second first team selection for Conduah, who earned the honor during football. He graduated in May with a 3.83 grade point average with a major in computer information systems and business administration.

The honor was the first for Hothem, who was a five-time United States Track Coaches Association All-American in cross country, indoor and outdoor track. Hothem graduated in May with a 4.0 GPA in his major of environmental biology and water resources.

The Men's Spring At-Large College Division Team is selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and is for non-Division I athletes.

'Berg names spring MVPs

Heidelberg College has announced its list of most valuable players for spring sports.

This year's MVPs are Tony Struder in golf, Adam Koppin in men's track, Pat Zanko in men's tennis, Melissa Troyer in women's track, Teresa Darrah in women's tennis and Bekah Nawrocki in softball. The baseball team has yet to pick an MVP.

Studer got the golf honor after finishing in tie for second at the Ohio Athletic Conference Championship and leading Heidelberg to its second straight runner-up performance.

Koppin earned All-American honors in the 1500 race at the NCAA Division III National Championships to help The 'Berg end up 29th in the nation. He also helped the team win the OAC title for the second consecutive year.

Zanko led the tennis team in wins during 2000.

Troyer's MVP honors in women's track were earned after winning the OAC's 5000 indoor title and taking All-OAC honors in the outdoor 5000.

Darrah won her MVP award in tennis by ending up second on the team's single season win list with 31 victories.

Nawrocki led the softball team with a .381 average, 13 steals and 20 runs scored on her way to also being named to the All-Central Region second team.

The efforts helped The 'Berg wind up second in the OAC All-Sports contest.
