Merchants runners-up in fastpitch tourney
Girls Fastpitch
The Seneca County Merchant Girls Fastpitch team were tournament runners-up this past weekend at the "Counry Classic", 18 and under division, held at Elmwood. They won their pool with wins over Chris Hoiles Motor Sports, Attica Eagles and Liberty Benton. They lost 6-1 to the NW Ohio Lady Irish in the finals. Team members include Holly Thom, Beth Cook, Heather Webb, Rosie Ortiz, Rachel McCalla, Cassandra Frankart, Jennifer Seigley, Erin Rau, Courntey Dahoney, Chrissie Lotcyz, Melissa Reynolds and Erin Hammer.
Ponytail
Merissa Conley homered as Viewpoint Graphics downed VFW, 12-8. Anne Kerschner (single), Lindy Whitmer (double) and Amanda Brown (single) all had hits, as Whitmer, Brown and Ashley Hoepf combined for the win. Leading VFW was Alyssa Weber who homered and doubled, along with Erin Shaffer and Jessica Shore who had two hits apiece. Jennifer Spader, Stephanie Thom and Ashley Laugherty each singled.
Sen/San/Wyn
Erin Schum was the winning pitcher and singled to pace Calvert over New Riegel, 18-8. Jackie Ritzler shined as she picked up the save, along with hitting three singles. Amanda Kin doubled and singled twice, and Amanda Ritzler smacked two singles as did Jessie Maiberger. Sara Elchert and Laurie Ehrenfried each had a hit.
Babe Ruth
Brad Snyder and Sam Jacobs each had two hits as they led Firefighters over Webster, 5-2. Adam Wise (single) and Brian Anthony (single) also added a hit apiece. On the mound, Jamie Van Eerten struck out ten batters. For Webster, Justin Butler doubled, while Dan Combs and Ryan Weaver each singled.
John Elchert had four singles and Travis Marks had three singles to lead the VFW in a 26-3 thrashing of Paper and Ink. Tyler Young (single, four RBIs), Dan Reamer (single, five RBIs), Dave Meisner (single, two RBIs) and Mike Lundy (single, RBI) all had hits. Jacob Rider knotched the win on the mound. Justin Baker (single) and Ryan Page (double) had hits for Paper and Ink.
Pony
Tyler Overbie whiffed eleven batters as Carey Legion edged Calvert Blue, 6-5. Casey Ritter had three singles, while Kevin Atkins and Overbie each added a single. Peter Brodman, Nick Lay, Zack Parente, Tony Mass, Andy Haines and Brian Stephens had a hit apiece for Calvert Blue.
Zack Fowler allowed five hits over four innings as the Tiffin Titans pounded Green Springs, 20-2. Corey Peacock socked two doubles while Scott Ardner had a double and a single. Tim Spencer and Joel Dickerson had two hits each. Also collecting singles for Tiffin were Siddarth Pathi, Brad Jacobs, Fowler, Adam Haman and Jeremy Morgan. Hitters for Green Springs included for Green Springs Andy Herrera ( double, single), Kyle Miller, Jeremy Shook and Mike Stiltner.
E League
Despite having more hits, the Diamondbacks dualed the Cardinals to a 11-11 tie. Those having hits for the Diamondbacks include Brian Hunt ( two triples, single), Brandon Shellhammer (two singles), Shawn Kirchner (single) and Matt Snavely (single). Frank Eachus homered and doubled to lead the Cardinals' offense. Mike Runion doubled, and Jacob Good, Jeff Weber and Scott DeVaughn each singled.
Just like the major leagues, the Indians defeated the White Sox, 8-7. Zack Hawkins had three singles, while Chris Sauber (single), Scott Perry (double), Dustin Lucius (single), John Cook (single) and Aaron Schreiner (single) all collected hits. Robbie Clouse and Todd Tolbot each had two hits for the White Sox, as Derek Frankart, Chelsea Adkins, and Jayme Carper all had a base hit apiece.
Seven players reached base as the Orioles downed the Reds, 11-7. Austin Arnold led with a triple and a double, and Jason Tooley had a single and a triple. Drew Krupp and Craig Lenex each singled twice, while Jacob Hoover and Richard Kelly each added base hits. For the Reds, Mike Matarona and Jake Lucius each tripled and singled and Alex Lucius, Chris Dutro, and Chris Beidelscheis all singled..
