Baseball

E League

Aaron Hurd and Alex Gase combined for a no-hitter to lead the Orioles to a 12-0 win over the Indians in the first game of the E League Championship Series. The series is the best two out of three. Andrew Althaus topped the Orioles' batters with two doubles. Gase tripled and singled, Josiah Greenwald lined two singles, Hurd smacked a triple and Willard McDole, Kyle Riser, Craig Gibson, K.T. Pattillo and Justin Rosas all singled.

n A five-run second inning propelled the Mets to a 9-3 win over the Athletics in the E League Tournament. Ryan Dell picked up the win and helped his own cause with a triple, Tyler Wise blasted a three-run homer, Brandin Bursa drove in two runs with a home run and two singles, Greg Phillips chased in three runs and doubled and Aaron Smith tripled in a run. The Athletics got a double and single from Matt Bowen, a single and 2RBIs from Bobby Schaarschmidt, a single and RBI from Alex Schaffer and a single each from Charles Ott and Hank Rosen.

n The Wolf Creek Wolves went 2-2 a the Upper Sandusky All-Stars Tournament. The Wolves beat Van Buren 11-6 in their first game, fell 4-1 to Benton Ridge in their second, roughed up Upper Sandusky 22-1 in the third game and lost 5-1 to Van Buren in their last game. In the first game, Frank Eachus tripled and hit two singles, Alex Gase and Aaron Hurd both singled twice and Pat Woodman, Zach Seislove, Aaron Gassner and Matt Bowen all singled. Hurd and Gassner picked up the win. Against Benton Ridge, Woodman lined a pair of singles and Hurd singled. Drew Krupp and Gase combined to no-hit Upper Sandusky. At the plate, Bowen legged out two triples and double, Seislove hit two triples and a single, Jake Peacock belted a home run and a single, Chris Sauber doubled and singled, Hurd hit two singles, Eachus doubled and Woodman, Gase, Darren Kummerer, Gassner and Krupp each hit a single. In the last game, Hurd stroked two singles while Woodman, Peacock, Eachus, Gase and Kummerer hit a single apiece.

Seneca County Pony League

Fostoria Black held off Calvert Blue in the top of the seventh to eke out a 14-13 win. Fostoria plated five runs in the first and four in the second to go up 9-3, but Calvert rallied to trail just 11-9 after the top of the sixth. Fostoria scored three in the bottom of the sixth but surrendered four in the top of the seventh before quieting the Calvert rally. Winning pitcher Mike James ripped a triple, two doubles and a single for Fostoria. Jim Bernard and Greg Smith both lined two singles, Steve Geroski hit a double and two singles and Curt Duran and Joe Schiefer both legged out a triple. Andy Haines' home run and single led Calvert. Eric Swartz doubled and Kyle Mack, Michael Grothaus and Andrew Kraut each singled.

n The Tiffin Wildcats slipped by Mohawk Red 9-8 and doubled up Mohawk Black 20-10 to end the year with a 15-4 record. Nick Weber drove in Tiffin's game-winning run against Mohawk Red to help John Ducsay pick up the pitching victory. Matt Snyder earned the save. Ducsay went 3-for-3 with three singles, Joey Bish hit two doubles and a single and Tyler Tracy singled twice. Bish ripped a home run and two singles to lead the Wildcats, while Curt Cochran added a homer and single. Matt Weber hit three singles, Nick Weber singled twice, Aaron McQuistion, Matt Hoffman and Matt Sndyer all doubled and Tracy and Josh Coger both singled. Richard Alford earned the win and Snyder got the save.

Tiffin Babe Ruth

Rush Business Forms did all of its damage in the first inning, exploding for 11 runs on the way to beating Bair Brothers 11-6. Brandon Risser and winning pitching Tyler Shuff both drove in two runs for Rush Business Forms. Risser smacked two singles and a double while Shuff belted a pair of singles. Adam Haman added a single. C.J. Kisabeth chased in two runs and singled to lead Bair Brothers. Matt Lewis, Chris Agerter and Brad Jacobs all had an RBI and single.

D League

American Standard scored three in the bottom of the first and another in the second on the way to beating Eagles 4-1. Dereck Burns tripled and singled and Joe Brickner and Josh Allen each hit a single to help Kory Conley earn the win. Eagles was held to a pair of singles, one each by Kyle Sours and Cody Young.
