The Indians held off a furious rally by the Orioles, who scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth, to win championship game No. 2, 13-12. Aaron Rider led the winners by smacking a home run and double, while Aaron Gassner and Derrick Arbogast both doubled and singled. Jerrica Carpenter lined three singles, Zach Gase two, and Jacob Turner and Mitch Therriault one each. Aaron Hurd, Alex Gase, Kyle Risser (double) and Craig Gibson all had two hits for the Orioles. Andrew Althaus and Josiah Greenwald doubled, with Willard McDole and Darris Correll adding singles. The final game will be played today at the D League field at 6 p.m.
Babe Ruth
Winning pitcher Jeremy Smith rapped a triple, double, and two singles as V.F.W. got past Moose, 9-6. Robert Murphy doubled twice and Trae Marks had two singles. Tyler Young doubled, and Billy Bell and Patrick Carter contributed singles. Chad Tyree and Justin Baker both had two singles for Moose. Wade Bogard, Aaron Everhart, Jacob Rider and Jim Picciuto had one each. The final game will be today at 5:30 p.m.
Pony League
Clinton I defeated Seneca East Black 15-10 in first round tournament action, and will take on Old Fort next. Matt Diem led the winners at the plate with three singles and a double, while Jon Weininger homered and singled. Also getting two hits were Greg Wilhelm, Jeremy Weininger, Zach Peiffer (double), Trent Shoemaker (double) and Chris Snyder. For Seneca East, Matt Lamoreaux stroked three singles. Brian Heiberthausen singled and doubled, and Travis Dunbar ripped a homer. Justin Sherman doubled, and Tyler Nester and Josh Collins added singles.
* The Tiffin Titans pounded out 22 hits in a 28-0 rout of New Riegel. Tim Spencer led the attack with a triple, double, and two singles. Zack Ball and Jeremy Morgan each stroked three hits. Getting two apiece were John Elchert (triple), Billy Alford (double), John Gottwald, Nevin Martin and Todd Miller. Joel Dickerson doubled and Brad Clinger singled. Brent Arbogast and Andy Smith singled for New Riegel.
Blanchard Valley
In an all-Tiffin tournament battle, Eagles avoided elimination with a 9-8 clipping of Amvets. Ryan Keefe pitched a complete game to get the win, and also singled. Justin Sauber (double), Ben Stover and Dustin Ritchie all had two hits, and Cory Hess added a double. Drew Lovas and Cory Peacock both doubled and singled for Amvets. Brian Eachus, Randy Fredericks and Mike Everhart contributed hits.
