Calvert falls to Danbury
PORT CLINTON &emdash; Calvert's golfers never got in a groove Tuesday, falling 178-183 to Danbury at Catawba Willows Golf Course in the Senecas' first dual meet of the year.
Twin 45s by Nick Gassner and Radha Ganesan led Calvert on the par-35 course. Matt Reino added a 46 and Gino Paulus shot a 47.
Chris Hall's 48 and Matt Cramer's 49 didn't count for the team score.
Danbury was paced by Nick Clabaugh's 38, Mike Chura's 44 and a 48 each from Brian Twarck and Chad Indorf.
Lakota finishes 13th
TOLEDO &emdash; Lakota finished 13th at the Spartan Tournament Tuesday at Detwiller Golf Club in Toledo.
Toledo St. Francis had four players shoot 79 or less to beat Anthony Wayne 306-311 for the team title.
Bedford and Toledo Whitmer tied at 314, with Bedford being awarded third on a tiebreaker. Lima Bath was fifth at 315, followed by Eastwood (318), Rossford (319), Oregon Clay (331), Toledo Waite (354), Ottawa Hills (363) and Lakota (364).
A.J. Howe topped Lakota with an 80. David Russell and Bryan Chaney both carded a 91 and Bob Gangwer had a 102. Kevin Hammer (103) and Jason Boatman (129) also played.
Bellevue takes NOL season opener
BELLEVUE &emdash; The host Bellevue Redmen took a tri-meet from Columbian and Willard to open the NOL season.
Bellevue's score of 160 was four strokes better than the Crimson Flashes. The Tornado golfers totaled 175.
Chris Meyer shot a 43 to top Columbian. Mike Everhart, Justin Sauber and Donny Thompson all carded 44s.
Crimson Streaks take tri meet
Fremont St. Joe's Roman Ruppert was medalist with a 39, and three other teammates shot 42 or better, as the Crimson Streaks took a tri-meet at Seneca Hills against New Riegel and Carey.
St. Joe's totaled 163. Mike Zimmerman carded a 40, with Dan Licursi and Vince Golumb firing 42s.
New Riegel's team total was 177, one stroke better than Carey.
The Blue Jackets were led by Aaron Lafontaine's 40. Jon Kauffman shot a 43, Brian Hemrick 44 and Dave Brown 50. Also hitting the links were Zak Boes (54) and Justin Depinet (60).
Jacob Beck's 41 topped Carey's effort. Next were Richard O'Reilly (43), Cory Kitzler (45) and Mark Yost (49). Not counting towards the team score were Clayton Kitzler (57) and Kyle Hunter (62).
Lake takes quad at Fostoria
FOSTORIA &emdash; Lake's Dave Vick and Greg Prymicz tied with Hopewell-Loudon's Aaron Vay with 40 for medalist honors, but Lake's team score of 169 was good enough for first in a quad match that also included Fostoria and Elmwood.
The Redmen took second as a team, shooting 180. Leading the way was Rob Downing's 43. Also playing were Adam Omlor (45), Gaert Hansen (45), and Mark Hapsher, Brody Walters and Drew Russell (47 each).
Lake improves 3-0 and Fostoria now stands at 3-1. Elmwood fell to 1-2 and Hopewell-Loudon to 0-3.
