Mohawk girls, Upper boys 2nd at L-B Invite
FINDLAY &emdash; The Liberty-Benton Eagles totaled a mere 20 points to take the girls race at their own invitational.
Mohawk was second with 85 points. Cory-Rawson (111) was third, followed by Upper Sandusky (113), Carey (134), Kenton (148) and Van Buren (205).
The Warriors were led by Megan Ruffing, who took eighth in a time of 24:06. Abby Ward (10th) was next in 24:13.
Also running were Emily Ruffing (22nd, 25:54), Julie Goshe (23rd, 26:16), Brandi Weininger (25th, 26:23), Jodi Calmes (44th, 29:00) and Katie Lust (50th, 32:56).
Amy Oehlers placed second in 21:14 to lead Upper Sandusky. Sarah Humphrey (18th, 25:11), Kim Swinehart (26th, 26:24), Beth Giles (34th, 27:07), Cara Bennett (37th, 27:43), Sarah McWilliams (45th, 29:24) and Gwen Gelbaugh (48th, 31:38) rounded out the Ram runners.
Heidi (25:07) and Cassandra Pieracini (25:21) placed 16th and 19th, respectively, for Carey. Also on the course were Alicia Derr (28th, 26:37), Sarah Hempfling (30th, 26:40), Rachel Beck (46th, 29:35) and Sarah Buhl (47th, 29:45).
For Old Fort, Hillary Keegan was tops by placing 30th in 29:09. Teammates running included Cara Bass (35th, 29:30), Amanda Noss (37th, 31:53) and Sara Noss (40th, 35:18).
The host Eagles took three of the top five spots in winning the boys race with 36 points. Upper Sandusky was next with 54 points, one point ahead of Ottawa-Glandorf. Carey (150) was fourth, Old Fort (153) fifth, Bluffton (190) sixth and Van Buren (196) seventh.
Aaron Lambert led the Rams by taking second in 17:23. Kent Collins was sixth in 18:16. Other Ram runners were Alex Hollanshead (12th, 19:09), Rich Smith (15th,19:37), Ryan Brodman (19th, 20:43), Matt Young (21st, 20:48) and Parker Mosman (42nd, 24:23).
A.J. Kessler topped Carey by finishing in 19:21 to take 14th. Matt Hempling (25th, 21:10), Alan Beck (33rd, 22:58), Adam Clauss (34th, 23:06), Eric Wagner (44th, 24:42) and Brad Pennington (49th, 27:00) rounded out the Blue Devil racers.
Leading the Old Fort boys were Cliff Riehm (19:06) and Jordan Miller (19:19), who took 11th and 13th, respectively. Also running were Steve Merritt (35th, 23:12), Dave Meyers (43rd, 24:40) and Brian Riehm (51st, 30:34).
Bettsville ran in the open race. Leading the boys was Evan Baker who won with a time of 18:15. Justin Harrison (20:27) was third, Nick Miller (23:44) 19th and Steve Weller (23:58) 21st also ran. Jenna DeVanna (24:58) and Valerie Stump (25:16) placed fifth and seventh, respectively, for the Bettsville girls. Courtney Schiewe (26:45) was 14th and Emily Sendelbach (27:28) 18th.
Findlay runs past Tornadoes
The Columbian boys and girls cross country teams each came in second to Findlay in five-way meets Tuesday at Hedges-Boyer park.
The Tornado girls scored 48 points, while Findlay won with 32.
Despite the second place finish, Columbian's Carly Bowers walked away with best time in the girls meet (21:54). Her closest competitor was Bowling Green's Esther Miller (22:06). Findlay's Libby Huffman was third (22:19).
The BG team took third place with 52 points, Fremont-Ross was fourth (88) and Oregon Clay came in fifth (141).
Findlay's boys finished with 32 points, barely beating out the Tornadoes who had 33.
"We really would've liked to have won the meet," Columbian boys coach Craig Snyder said. "But for us to run stride for stride with a team like Findlay, I was encouraged. Year in and year out Findlay's a strong team. For us to be right with them and finish one point back, I'm really pleased."
Findlay's Ryan Higgs finished with the fastest time (17:33). Jeremy Framstad of Fremont Ross came in second (17:42) just five seconds ahead of third place finisher, Derrick Brown (17:48) of Columbian.
Bowling Green was a distant third in the team competition with 102 points. Ross finished fourth (104) and Oregon Clay took fifth (154).
Bowling Green's top boy runner was Jesse Harmon, who came in 14th (19:45). Chris Selmek led the Clay boys, finishing 16th (19:57) and Lindsay Krompak had the best time among Clay girls. She was 26th (24:58).
Other runners for the Tornadoes included Jason Gurney fifth (18:04), Andrew Greene sixth (18:22), Jeremiah Glick ninth (18:52), Sam Moyer 10th (18:59), Greg Trumble 11th (19:18), Sam Glick 18th (20:23), Aaron Way 20th (20:45) and for the girls, Kathy Scott ninth (23:07), Brittaney Zellner 10th (23:13), Abby Miller 12th (23:45), Jackie Comer 16th (24:08), Ryan DeLaCruz 43rd (26:53), Jenni Wolfe 44th (26:54), Steph Click 47th (27:05) and Laura Gushe 49th (27:50).
Chieftains defeat Redmen twice
FOSTORIA &emdash; Hopewell-Loudon finished seven of the top eight runners in a dual meet against Fostoria, giving the Chieftains the win, 17-42.
Craig Reinhart of H-L came in as the individual winner with a time of 18:22. Chieftain teammates Josh Schalk took second (19:54) and Jim Stearns finished third (20:06).
The fastest runner for Fostoria was Ryan Headley, who came in fourth (20:17). Josh McClellan was ninth (22:04), Mike Cooley 10th (22:27), Phillip Cooley 12th (24:28), Matt Ballreich 13th (26:49) and Nate Overmire was 14th (29:15).
Other Chieftain runners included Drew Clouse fifth (20:36), Jeff Smith sixth (21:07), Nick Reinhart seventh (21:08), Brad Smith eighth (21:09) and Aaron Mason 11th (24:02).
In a matchup between two of state's premier teams, Hopewell-Loudon's girls topped Fostoria, 24-34.
The Chieftains had the top two runners in freshman Carime Reinhart (20:36) and Amy Jacobs (21:34). Finishing sixth through ninth were Rachel Hoover (22:58), Makenzie Robbins (24:07), Nikki Jones (24:20) and Lindsay Dell (24:36).
Also running among the top 20 were Karis Reinhart (11th, 24:57), Leah Miller (13th, 25:18), Holly Thom (16th, 26:01), Ashley Brickner (17th, 26:03) and Melissa Ritter (18th, 26:10).
The rest of the runners for Hopewell-Loudon included Erica Molineaux (23rd, 29:29), Heather Creeger (25th, 30:25), Alaina Ritter (26th, 30:53) and Laura Nedolast (27th, 31:00 ).
For Fostoria, Delaine Depp (22:31), Chelsea Zoll (22:49) and Erika Heiser (22:51) ran 3-4-5, respectively.
Lorin Switzer (10th, 24:40) was next. Others in the top 20 included Sandy Frisch (12th, 25:05), Natalie Chambers (14th, 25:34), Tiffany Swartz (15th, 25:34) and Cami Doe (19th, 26:27).
Rounding out the Redmen runners were Betsy Shiff (21st, 27:24), Mindy Dible (22nd, 29:07), McKenna McClellan (24th, 30:01) and Tatum Hernandez (28th, 35:21).
