Reinhart blazes to district title

FREMONT - Hopewell-Loudon runner Carime Reinhart and her coach, Paul Jones, both had simple plans for Saturday's Division III district race at Terra Community College.

Reinhart's was to take a quick lead and never let up while Jones' was to have the whole team move on to the regional meet.

Both were run to perfection.

Reinhart grabbed the lead early and never looked back on the way to winning in 18:39, besting runner-up Lindsay Kayle of Liberty-Benton by 20 seconds.

"I was trying to keep ahead of Kayle," Reinhart said. "She was pretty close to me at the beginning and either she dropped back or I pulled up. My plan was to beat her.

"I didn't expect to run an 18 today. It was really hot," she said. "I just kept going. I knew it'd be over in a little bit so I just kept going and telling myself I could do it and it would be over in a little bit."

Meanwhile, the rest of Chieftains also did very well, with Amy Jacobs taking sixth (20:03.4) and Rachel Hoover running 13th (21:11.3) to advance to the regional as individuals while Nikki Jones and Makenzie Robbins were 18th and 19th (22:03 and 22:09.3), respectively. Karis Reinhart (22nd, 22:19.1) and Lindsay Dell (24th, 22:25.8) also competed.

The top 15 runners automatically advance to the regional meet.

Liberty-Benton wound up beating Hopewell-Loudon 43-57 for the team title, but moving on as a team was the No. 1 goal, according to Jones.

"We thought we had a shot at them, but Liberty-Benton's very tough," Jones said. "The idea was to get out of here (district), and we did that."

And they weren't the only ones to do that.

St. Wendelin had a pair of regional qualifiers in Audra Reinhard and Jenni Yost on the way to besting Maumee Valley Country Day 94-102 for third.

Reinhard took ninth (20:52.8) and Yost was 10th (20:54.9) for the Mohawks, while Jolene Faeth ran 20th (22:13..5), Randi Jo Wireman was 26th (22:27.5) and Wendy Schreiner took 29th (22:43.6).

Sara Dotson (30th, 22:48) and Jackie Bouillon (39th, 23:49.5) also ran.

"Audra and Jenni, they did a good job," St. Wendelin coach Sam Guillen said. "They were ninth and 10th, they PR'd, they worked as a team. They all worked together."

Gibsonburg was fifth (165), followed by Margaretta (164), Carey (178), Genoa (193) and Toledo Christian (218).

Carey was paced by Sarah Hempfling clocking in 25th in 22.27.1.

Cassandra Pieracini was 31st (22:49) for the Blue Devils, Laura Breitigam took 34th (23:02), Heidi Pieracini ran 37th (23:25) and Sarah Buhl finished 58th (26:23), Rachel Beck was 59th (26:48) and Katie Hill came in 65th (29:29).
