MONROEVILLE -- Seneca East made sure host Monroeville started the season on a sour note, holding the Eagles to 12 second half points to get by with a 42-38 win.
"It's always nice to get your first win," said SE coach Gary Manasco, whose evened its record at 1-1. "It obviously wasn't an offensive game. We definately improved our defense in the second half."
Dawn Herr topped the Tigers with 13 points and eight rebounds. Meagan Poffenbaugh added nine points for SE, Haleigh Conley eight and Brenda Shade six. Jamie Herr dished out five assists.
Seneca East had a 31-25 rebounding edge, including 16 offensive boards.
FREMONT -- Jessica Vallejo scorched the nets for 25 points as Bettsville downed Fremont Temple Christian, a team not sanctioned by the OHSAA, 63-24.
Vallejo also had 14 steals and four assists. Laura Sisco and Valerie Stump (six rebounds) had 11 and 10 points, respectively. Nicole Lopez (nine) almost reached double figures. Angie Broski, Jamie Lang, Alison Lang and Ranee Stump all added two points each.
