![]() June 24, 1998 Sycamore festival is family friendly By Jan Hoffbauer ''We are adding family entertainment for Sunday. It is new and no cost to families,'' said Doug Hufford, chairman for the Sycamore Summerfest this week-end in Sycamore. Sunday's new entertinment includes a ventriloquist, ''The Comedy of Ken Groves'' at 4 p.m. and a ''Floral Fantasy'' magic show by Lowell W. Forbes, at 5:30 p.m., both at the Lion's tent. ''We have a new ride company this year, Buckeye State Shows from Elyria. We will have nine rides, some will be new,'' added Hufford. Northwest Ohio's country-western stars, Little Rock, will open the musical entertainment, Friday. Area country-western fans will be entertained for only a $2.00 admission fee from 9 p.m to 1 a.m. The Danger Brothers return again this year for dancing and listening pleasure on Saturday evening from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. with a $7.00 admission. There will be no charge to hear Fritz and the Kid from Upper Sandusky play a variety of music Sunday night from 6 to 9 p.m. In addition to specially planned events there are rides, games, food, flea market, and bingo. Craft tents open at 5 p.m. Friday and noon on Saturday and Sunday. The Sycamore Lion and Lioness will serve dinners from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday evening. Friday's menu is a pork chop barbeque and Saturday's is a chicken barbeque. Saturday's highlights include: * a one mile fun run at 9 a.m. * a 5K run starting at 9:30 a.m. Both races start at the main square. * a 3 on 3 adult basketball tournament will start at 10 a.m. Registration at 9 a.m. * Free children's games begin at the fire station at 10 a.m. * 10 a.m. car and truck show. Bigger and better this year. * Jaycee's parade registration starts at 3 p.m. at the Mohawk Jr. High School. Bike decorating contest will start at 3:00 and all those decorating their bikes can ride in the parade. Included in the 4:00 p.m. parade are area bands, baton groups and antique cars. * Fire Fighter's Challenge at the Fire Station at 5 p.m. * There will be 1865 baseball exposition games complete with uniforms, and rules of baseball from this era. The Ohio Village Muffins and the Sycamore Grasshoppers will play at Grasshopper Park at the corner of SR 67 and SR 231 at 5:30 p.m. Also up to bat are the Diamonds versus the Sycamore Lady Katydids. * Bingo at 7:30 p.m. Sunday activities include: * Co-ed sand volleyball at 9 a.m. at the community park. * a dog show in back of the fire station at 3 p.m. * Raffle drawing at 8 p.m. for two round trip tickets to anywhere in the United States from Continental Airlines. * Around 9:30 p.m. the 3 Musketeers Skydivers will again entertain when they jump over Legion Park. The Grand finale of the week-end happens at dusk with the annual fireworks display sponsored by the Sycamore Fire Department.
