Three men were in the Seneca County Jail Wednesday evening on charges they attacked and robbed a Tiffin man.

Edward Cordle, 22, Norwalk, James E. Bogner Jr., 20, 317 Jefferson St., and Mylan Mattox, age unavailable, 129 W. Market St., Apt.2, are charged with the second-degree felony robbery.

Police say a Bellevue youth also was involved, but he has not been charged.

According to police reports, shortly after 1 a.m., four men stopped their car in the 200 block of Washington Street, left the vehicle and attacked Thomas Gilbert.

The four men reportedly punched and kicked Gilbert, stole his wallet and fled the scene.

Gilbert was taken to Tiffin Mercy Hospital after the incident.

A police officer saw the man rise to his feet and several cruisers in the area were alerted to the attack. Police reports state the four were apprehended about 2 minutes later when a car with suspects matching a description given by Gilbert was seen near the intersection of Oak and Apple streets, a few blocks away. There were extra police officers on duty, because the incident happened during the time that two of the 10-hour shifts overlap.

Reportedly, an air gun and knives were found in the car, as were Gilbert's wallet and belongings.

Police say Gilbert was in the hospital Wednesday night, but he was expected to be released today.

The three men are being held on $50,000 bond, with 10 percent allowed. The incident still is under investigation.
