Ludrowsky named to TU hall of fame

Keith Ludrowsky and 1997 Hall of Fame Inductee Ron Scherger formed a formidable duo for Tiffin University baseball in the 1980s. They were the quintessential one-two punch not only for the Dragons but beyond their collegiate years in five years of American Legion baseball.

''We were extremely close friends,'' Ludrowsky said. ''He was the best man at my wedding. We played together for around eight years if you count Legion ball. So it's nice to be honored with him in the Tiffin University Hall of Fame.''

Ludrowsky made his mark over three seasons, having missed one year due to a shattered kneecap in his junior year.

''I had a collision on a short fly ball with the second baseman,'' Ludrowsky remembered. ''It was just one of a number of terrible things that happened not only to me but the whole team that season. That was also the season our teammate Scott Clark died on the field. That was a tough year.''

But Keith Ludrowsky was always a clutch baseball player. That was seen upon his first at-bat after his injury and Clark's death.

''I swore that I was going to hit a home run for Scott, and I told some people about it,''Ludrowsky said. ''Sure enough, I crushed one in my first at-bat after the injury. I even was fortunate enough to get that swing captured in a picture, and I've got it framed on my wall.''

Ludrowsky was an All-District and two-time All-Mid-Ohio Conference athlete. His numbers over three seasons are impressive, including a career doubles record (41) that still stands. He still ranks in the top five of four offensive categories -- all in three seasons.

''Tiffin University offered me the chance to play four years,'' Ludrowsky said. ''I had offers to play at Division I schools, but I wanted to play four full years. We had teams that were extremely competitive in the MOC, but our records never showed it. Our Florida trips killed us because we were playing very tough, deep teams and we had only two decent pitchers. But our offense was pretty good.''

Along with Scherger, Ludrowsky was one of the mainstays of the top offensive teams of the 1980s. He got his shot to play and made the most of it.
