Hector Mendiola

Hector Mendiola, 53, of 217 E. Forest St., Clyde, died Wednesday, November 24, 1998, at his home.
He was born May 9, 1945, in Asherton, Texas, to Mr. and Mrs. Victor (Catherine) Mendiola. On Nov. 15, 1998, in Clyde, he married Cathy Craig, who survives.
Other survivors include: his mother Carolina and stepfather Felix Guerra of Fostoria; a son, Brett Whilhelm of Clyde; a stepson, Douglas Craig of Clyde; a stepdaughter, Heather Craig of Cleveland; a brother, Victor Mendiola of Clyde; and three sisters, Sylvia Montana of Clyde, Hilda Perry of Columbus, and Mary Mendiola of California.
His father, Victor Mendiola, preceded him in death.
Mr. Mendiola was a 1964 graduate of Clyde High School and member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Clyde. A Vietnam veteran, he served from 1967-68, receiving the Air Force Commendation Medal, and was a charter member of the Clyde VFW Post 3343. He was employed at the Whirlpool Corporation, Clyde, for 33 years, the last few as a store clerk. He was also a member of the Eagles in Clyde and Bellevue.
The funeral will be today at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's in Clyde with the Rev. John Naegle officiating. Prayers will be offered at 9:30 a.m., prior to the funeral. Burial will be in Bakertown Cemetery, Clyde, with military honors. The Foos-Klein Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

James L. Cassidy
Retired Sycamore farmer
James L. Cassidy, 84, of 307 N. Sycamore St., Sycamore, died at 3:20 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24, 1998, at his home.
He was born to the late Harry J. and Gertrude (Cole) Cassidy on Oct. 7, 1914, in Lordstown, Ohio. On Jan. 1, 1936, he married Laura Clabaugh in Hudson. She survives.
Also surviving are: a son, Norman G. Cassidy of Sycamore; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a brother, Robert J. Cassidy of Lordstown.
Mr. Cassidy was a 1933 graduate of Lordstown High School and a retired farmer. He served on the board of the Trumbull County Farm Bureau and held other offices within that organization. He held memberships in the Ohio Farm Bureau, the Dairy Service Unit of Trumbell County, Roster of Ammunition (Know How), Ravenna Arsenal, and was a former member of the Newton Falls Volunteer Fire Department. A lifetime member of First Christian Disciple Church in Lordstown, he was an avid fisherman and railroad buff who belonged to the Mohawk Historical Society.
The funeral is today at 11 a.m. at the Walton-Moore Funeral Home in Sycamore. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery.

Taah M. Cooper
Former Mohawk High School student
Taah M. Cooper, 18, of 304 Kilbourne St., rear, Sycamore, died Nov. 25, 1998, in Tiffin.
She was born Aug. 3, 1980, in Honolulu, Hawaii, to John T. and Corinna K. (Dunlap) Cooper of Sycamore, who survive.
She is also survived by: her paternal grandparents, John W. (Jack) and Carol G. Cooper of Tiffin; maternal grandparents William H. and Shirley M. Dunlap ofSycamore; maternal great-grandmother, Mrs. Maxine Sherer of Tiffin; a brother and sister, Levi H. and Tabitha A. Cooper, both at home; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Her paternal grandmother, Mrs. Lillian (Downs) Cooper, preceded her in death.
She was a former Mohawk High School student.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2, at the Walton-Moore Funeral Home, Sycamore. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery.
Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Turning Point, Marion, Ohio, or First Step (Family Violence Intervention Center), Fostoria.
Lillian L. Ibos
St. Francis resident
Lillian L. Ibos, 89, of St. Francis Home, Tiffin, died at 5:17 p.m. Friday, Nov. 27, 1998, at the home, where she had resided since April 1995.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Turner-Engle Funeral Home, Tiffin. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park, North Olmstead, Ohio.
Vistiation will be 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Rev. Harold W. Thiedt
Brother of Tiffin woman
Rev. Harold W. Thiedt, 74, of Comanche Trail, Wapakoneta, died at 5:13 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 26, 1998, at Carroll County General Hospial, Westminster, Md., following a sudden illness while visiting his daughter's family.
He was born Oct. 12, 1924, in Buffalo, N.Y., to William and Hermina (Wiese) Thiedt. He married Martha Thomas on Dec. 18, 1948. She died June 3, 1992.
Surviving are: three sons, James A. of Lima, Donald A. of Savannah, Ga., and Larry R. Thiedt ofWapakoneta; a daughter, Susan Ondercin of Sykesville, Md.; nine grandchildren; and two sisters, Carolyn Dunn of Great Barrington, Maine, and Catherine Thiedt of Tiffin.
Rev. Thiedt graduated from Heidelberg College and received a divinity degree from Edon Theological Seminary, Webster Groves, Mo. He was ordained into the ministry on June 26, 1949, and served in various churches in the states of New York and Ohio, retiring from St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Wapakoneta, where he was named Pastor Emeritus. After retirement, he served three interim pastorates, most recently at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, St. Mary's, Ohio.
Rev. Thiedt was named moderator of the Northwest Ohio Association and was a member of the Board of Directors at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Mary's. A volunteer counselor with St. Rita's Hospice and worker for Habitat for Humanity, he was an avid golfer, model railroader and outdoor enthusiast.
Funeral services are planned for 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Paul UCC, Wapakoneta, with the Reverends Clifford Farmer and Dr. John E. Manzo officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Wapakoneta.
Vistation will be 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Monday and from 1 p.m until the time of the service on Tuesday, at St. Paul United Church of Christ, Wapakoneta.
Memorials may be made to Habitat for Humanity or St. Rita's Hospice. The Bayliff-Eley Funeral Home, Wapakoneta, is in charge of arrangements.

Harold L. ''Bud'' Chalfin, 77, of Helena, Ohio, died Friday, Nov. 27, 1998, in Fremont Memorial Hospital.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at the Barndt Funeral Home, 121 W. South St., Wayne, Ohio.
