The Seneca County Board of Health will be seeking a new health commissioner.

The board Thursday night accepted the retirement resignation of Darlene Baney, effective July 1. Baney has served the department since August 1993 when she was hired as the director of nursing services.

In January 1996, she was appointed to serve as interim health commissioner and six months later, was named health commissioner.

President Betty Van Ho and other board member expressed their regret. Van Ho said the board soon will begin the process of accepting applications in an effort to name a replacement.

The board also accepted the resignation of administrative assistant Jean Groves, effective Feb. 15. Groves has been with the department since September 1993.

The board approved the hiring of Christopher Morit as a health educator II and of Carol Canode as a full-time home health aide. Nancy Laux was appointed registrar and the board approved designating the registrar as an administrative position reporting directly to the health commissioner.

Upon the recomendation of environmental services director Scott Rabun, the board approved the condemnation of the property at 737 Williston Ave., Fostoria. Residents are to vacate the property and no one may live in the residence until necessary repairs are made.

The board also condemned a property at 220 W. Tiffin St., Attica, and noted if repairs are not completed by the time stipulated, the board will proceed with having the house demolished.
