Parish nursing is her destiny

FOSTORIA &emdash; When Kathy Holman lost her job, she had no idea of what direction to take her life. Then it came to her one day &emdash; almost like a calling. Parish nursing was her destiny.
Holman had been a nurse for years when the facility she was employed at closed. But she had seen articles about parish nursing and had an interest in the concept.
Parish nursing is a nurse who provides health services, educational services and informal counseling to members of the congregation of a church. The idea is to provide wholistic healing.
"It's a good concept. It goes back to the first and second centuries when deaconeses were the first caregivers. It's another way for people to find help when they don't know where to go,'' Holman said.
