![]() February 19, 1999 Election races to run full speed ahead By David Crawford The primary election filing deadline on Thursday set the races for Tiffin and Fostoria municipal elections. With only one party candidate for all Tiffin municipal elections, there will be no primary election for the city of Tiffin. The next scheduled election for Tiffin would be the general election in November. Fostoria will have a primary election on May 4 to decide its school levy and a Democratic primary to narrow the four candidates for Fostoria City Council At-Large. There are three Tiffin elected officials running unopposed, all incumbents: Republican city councilman Dale Depew of the First Ward; Democrat city councilman Paul Elchert of the Second Ward; and Democrat city law director Brent Howard. In contested Tiffin races, Democrat incumbant Bernard Hohman will face Republican Alan Shind. For the at-large city council seat, incumbant Democrat Mark Hayes will be opposed by Republican Brad Stephens. For Tiffin Third Ward, Democratic incumbant Thomas Distel will be opposed by Republican Todd Edmond. Tiffin Fourth Ward will have a race between incumbant Michael Grandillo, a Democrat, will be opposed by Republican David Einsel. In Fostoria, there are four candidates who will run opposed in primary and final elections: Democrat Joseph Droll for President of Fostoria City Council, Republican John Schuld for city auditor, Democrat Lowell Bugner for Fourth Ward Fostoria City Council, and Republican John D. Hadacek for Fostoria Municipal Court judge. The only race that will require a Democratic primary in Fostoria is for Democratic Fostoria city council At-Large. There are four candidates to the three spots on the Democrat ticket. Democrats in Fostoria will have to choose between Dale Helms, Arlen Lowery, Donald E. Myers Jr., and Georgianna Widmer. In the other Fostoria races, Democrat incumbant James Bailey will run against Republican John Davoli. For Fostoria city law director, former Democratic mayor Barbara Marley will be running against Republican incumbant Alicia McKay. For Fostoria City Council, there will be a race in November between Democratic incumbant Mary Puffenberger will compete with Republican challenger Arthur Cuellar. In the Fostoria Second Ward, former city engineer Daniel Hunter will run as a Democrat against Republican LaVerne Anderson. Democrat incumbant Teresa Lee will be opposed by Republican David Clark. |
