February 23, 2001 Small primary in May By Erik Burriss Only Tiffin residents voting as Republicans will have an option for nominating candidates in the May primary. The 2001 elections are focused on city races, although a handful of issues are on the ballot. Mark Repp, a Seneca County assistant prosecutor, is challenging incumbent Fred Daniel for the Republican nomination for Tiffin municipal court judge. The situation in Fostoria is similar, although the at-large council race looks like it will be contested in November. Three Democrats -- Georgiana Widmer, Tom Lake and Arlen Lowery -- and three Republicans -- David Clark, Brian Witta and Jeremy Neller -- filed petitions. However, only one candidate has filed in the rest of Fostoria's races. Filing as Republicans were Donald Yarris for treasurer, Deb Souder for auditor and LaVerne Anderson for city council's 2nd Ward seat. The Democrats were Joseph Droll for president of council, and, for city council ward seats, Don Myers for the 1st Ward, Teresa Lee for the 3rd Ward and Lowell Bugner for the 4th Ward. In addition to the city races, four issues will appear on the ballot. Bettsville will have a 4-mill replacement levy, Eden Township voters will decide on zoning, Fostoria City Schools will have a 5-mill levy and Clyde/Green Springs Schools will have a 2.9-mill renewal levy. The spring election will be May 8. |
