![]() March 23, 1999 County title office might move By Malinda Ruble The Seneca County Title Office may soon be on the move to a more convenient location. The Seneca County Commissioners learned Monday morning Clerk of Courts Carol Cleveland is moving ahead with relocating the office at 81 Jefferson St. "There is a need for this and it has been needed for sometime,'' Commissioner Janet Dell said. Cleveland said she would like to make the new facility more convenient for citizens to use. "We're looking to make a one-stop shop in the approximate vicinity of the license bureau on East Market Street,'' she said. Cleveland said, "The state has requested counties move to a one-stop shop for the convenience of citizens. Then the commissioners have plans for the (present county annex) building and are requesting that I look for a different location,'' she said. New equipment also is prompting the move along. "The state is purchasing a new computer system for the title department, which is to be up and running by Dec. 1, 1999, and I would like to make the change and have everything in place by that date,'' Cleveland said. Another goal for a new site will be additional parking. "The parking here is not handicapped accessible and there is limited parking available where I am,'' she said. Dell agreed parking is an issue that needs to be improved. "They need adequate parking and if they want a one-stop shop, they will be able to do testing right there and even motorcycle licensing. It would be wonderful to have everything in one place,'' Dell said. Last year the county title department handled 27,257 titles with six employees. Cleveland said she hopes a new site of about 2,000 square feet will allow for better efficiency of service for both the customers and the staff. Cleveland and the commissioners will be seeking bids for the leasing of office space in the near future. |
