Camp Quiter may get state funding

The Civilian Conservation Corps apparently has been included in a state budget that's on its way to the governor's desk.

Walt Jinks, CCC director at Camp Quilter, Green Springs, said the program is funded in a budget worked out among members of a joint committee of the Ohio House of Representatives and Ohio Senate.

Until this week, Jinks said, the House had included the program in its version of the budget, but the Senate had not.

"Now the budget will go to the governor's office for signing," Jinks said. "We won't know for sure (if the program is funded) until it's signed by the governor.

"But I don't think he's planning to make any changes," he added.

Although Jinks didn't yet know final amounts, he said funding will come from federal Jobs and Family Services money. The program has been funded by the state through the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

The Division of Civilian Conservation is to remain part of ODNR.

Jinks invited the public to attend an open house at Camp Quilter July 14 to find out more about what the program does and what it has to offer.
