AMVETS float moves on to fair

This float was made by the AMVETS and is to be displayed at this year's Seneca County Fair. It depicts the raising of the flag at Iwo Jima, a classic image from World War II.

The Operation Liberty Committee is planning to have the float and other displays in the Fine Arts Building.

The pictures of Seneca County veterans are to be displayed, as is the Honor Roll, which was a float during the Memorial Day Parade. The Honor Roll contains the names of all the people from Seneca County who fought in World War II.

The committee met Thursday to discuss plans for the fair. Committee members wanted to have displays for veterans and other people to examine.

"Our major goal is to put something together so veterans know they are recognized," committee chairman Jim White said.

"We want to attract the people to show them what the veterans did," committee member Jim Roberts said.

A flagpole is to be dedicated the first day of the fair, Monday July 24.
