![]() Thursday, June 29, 2000 Relay for Life exceeds goal By Carol Bogart This year's Relay for Life benefits in Tiffin and Fostoria raised more than $150,000 toward finding a cure for what was once an automatic death sentence. Fostoria's relay netted more than $100,000. In Tiffin, the more than $50,000 raised helped organizers top their Seneca County goal. Fostoria Relay for Life co-chairman Barb Carlo calls the county's response "absolutely fantastic. The people in our county are just so generous in helping us fight cancer." Tiffin relay co-chair Dave Frisch agrees, saying, "I'm thankful to the volunteers who helped organize it, but most of all the team members who went out and raised the money and made it all possible. They're really committed to the cause." Frisch, who says he plans to co-chair the relay again next year with Dave Hupp, is grateful to Heidelberg College for hosting the event for the second year. "Dr. Richard Owens and the staff at Heidelberg," he says, "were just super to work with and we're looking forward to being there again next year." Frisch found one part of the relay especially touching. "The luminary ceremony is very special," he says, "because you remember those who are fighting the battle of cancer but also remember those who've lost their battle with cancer. It's a very emotional moment as you hear the names read. It really puts it all in perspective for you." |
