![]() July 21, 1998 United Way, stadium project team up for fund raising By Malinda Ruble The Tiffin-Seneca United Way and the Tiffin Stadium Renovation Project are planning to help each other and the environment. The two groups are hosting ''Recycle Tiffin Day,'' a fund raiser designed to generate money for both groups and help citizens recycle. Citizens can take bags of aluminum cans to Rosenblatt, 322 Miami St., now until 4 p.m. Sept. 26 for the project. Tiffin residents also can place the bags on the front stoop by 9 a.m. Sept. 26 and volunteers would pick them up 9 a.m.-1 p.m. that day. Residents also have the option to drop the bags off at the Columbian Stadium baseball field 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sept. 26. Free ''Recycle Tiffin'' bags are to be available in August for residents, but unmarked bags can be deposited and donated to the project by informing the attendant at Rosenblatt that the cans are for ''Recycle Tiffin.'' The schools also are to give bags to each student the first week of school. Proceeds from the project are to be divided equally between the two agencies. Suzanne Dick-Trubee, executive director of United Way, said the idea came from a desire to see both programs be successful. ''It was really Gary Hartman's brainchild,'' Dick-Trubee said. ''We were talking about how the invest in our community theme (for United Way) was so appropriate. Our theme is invest in our community and it speaks abundantly of what a lot of people in this community are trying to do. Both campaigns are extremely important to our community for very different reasons. ''Athletics and music are often considered preventive measures for our youth and strong developmental tools,'' she said. ''And our 16 member agencies combine preventive measures with immediate help and personal development. Our member agencies need a good campaign to be effective in their tasks. ''Tiffin Columbian Stadium Renovation Project needs to be successful to be effective in their work.'' Dick-Trubee said the event will take the place of the agency's former United Way Day of Caring, which was designed to kick off the annual campaign. |
