July 22,2000 City fire, county's EMS get state $$$ for safety The Department of Public Safety has awarded more than $60,000 in grants to county safety forces to pay for training and equipment. Across Ohio, $4.9 million was awarded to 603 EMS agencies. Of the $13,058 awarded to the Tiffin Fire/Rescue Division, $8,241 will be spent on paramedic and advanced EMT training, Chief William Ennis said. "We can keep them up to date of the latest things," he said. Of the rest of the city's award, about half will be spent on a new ambulance cot. Ennis said the department is still in the process of deciding what equipment to buy with the remainder of the grant. Training will be the focus of Seneca County EMS's $34,110 award, Seneca County Public Safety Administrator Dan Stahl said. "A lot will be for initial training for new EMTs," he said, but some of the grant will go for advanced EMT classes and continuing education. The Fostoria Fire Division received a $19,475 award.
