224 blocked for 2 hours

A West Market Street house did not get move as planned Thursday morning because of rain and a lack of permission for part of the route.

Tiffin Mayor Bernie Hohman said the move of the house from 520 E. Market St. initially was delayed by morning rain. He said there also was a problem because the movers had planned to use the parking lots of Westgate Shopping Center and the Tiffin Mall, but did not have the property owners' permission.

Police Chief Tom Steyer Thursday night was not sure when the house would be moved. The permit for moving the house was issued for July 22-26. If the house is not moved in that time span, the owners will have to reapply for a permit, he said.

The house was to be moved down Market Street, through the parking lots, back on Market to US 224, then east on US 224 to CR 19, then to its final destination at 911 W. Nantucket Road. The land on which the house has stood is to be used for a new Rite Aid store.
