![]() July 26, 1998 Bascom EMS names new coordinator By Malinda Ruble Bascom Emergency Medical Service Coordinator Teresa Miles will begin her duties as the new county EMS coordinator Saturday. Miles will be filling the vacancy left by former EMS Coordinator Dan Stahl, who now serves as the county public safety administrator. ''There were seven applicants and we felt she was the candidate for the job. We offered it to her and she accepted,'' Stahl said. ''Her total background with EMS and experience made me feel as though she's the person for the job.'' Miles will be responsible for assisting Stahl in planning, development and coordinating county emergency services including EMS, 9-1-1, and will assist with responding to emergency situations 24-hours a day. Miles, who was officially hired by the county commissioners Thursday, said she is looking forward to the job. ''I always was interested when Dan was doing it and the work he was doing. I thought that would be the next logical step after being squad leader,'' she said. She said her experience as a coordinator should be beneficial. ''I do feel running the local squad gave me a lot of experience with the problems we encountered with Bascom. It gave me a little taste of what I'm in for,'' she said. Miles, who is an EMT-intermediate, has six years experience. Before becoming interested in being an EMT, she was involved in the childcare field. ''I have an associate degree at Terra for early childhood education. Before I became an EMT, I had a daycare at home. One of the people I babysat for was coordinator at Bascom and she told me how good I would be and once I did, I loved it,'' she said. Miles, who will earn $23,000 annually, will be resigning from the Bascom coordinator position. ''The trustees will take applications and as soon as they can find someone else, I'll resign,'' she said. With the EMS coordinator position filled, Stahl said he still is searching for one more person. ''We're still short one. We need to hire an EMA (Emergency Management Agency) coordinator. I'd like to have it filled by mid-August,'' he said. Anyone interested in the position has until Aug. 4 to apply.
