Kerlin, Conley are MAL's best
A game-winning shot against Fostoria helped to make Old Fort's Nick Kerlin the Midland Athletic League's boys Player of the Week, and Seneca East's Haleigh Conley won that honor on the girls side.
Kerlin's 3-pointer in the final seconds helped Old Fort (9-3) beat Fostoria, 68-66. The night before, the Stockaders remained perfect in the MAL with an 84-47 hammering of North Baltimore. Kerlin was 7 of 12 from the field and 7 of 8 from the foul line on his way to 25 points, and also had five rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Kerlin averages 10.5 points and 2.5 steals per game, and is shooting 68 percent from the foul line. The first place tie between Old Fort and Fremont St. Joseph will be broken Friday when the Stockaders travel to Fremont.
Conley totaled 25 points, 15 rebounds and three steals to earn the girls honor. The Tigers picked up their first MAL win with a 67-61 victory over Calvert.
Conley averages double figures in points (11.8) and rebounds (10.2). She also chips in 2.7 steals per game. Seneca East hosts Old Fort in MAL action this week.
