NEW ULM--About 50 protesters turned out Saturday for an anti-war in Iraq rally at German Park. The group closed the rally with a parade up German Street.

The rally was held in conjunction with anti-war demonstrations across the country and around the world that drew more than a million people, according to Associated Press reports.

Local rally organizer Lilly Duran of rural New Ulm led a group of people who spoke at the rally.

"We cannot bring peace through killing and violence. We will only provoke more violence, anger and hatred. So, please, let's send our voices out for peace today. No war with Iraq!" she told the group.

"If we are truly interested in liberating the Iraqi people from a ruthless leader why would we sacrifice innocent Iraqi lives in the process? Can we not as humans move beyond war?"

The rally concluded with a parade which went from the park up 3rd North to Broadway, turned left on Broadway to 3rd South, left on 3rd South to Minnesota, then up Minnesota to 3rd North where the group returned to the park.

"I was really surprised and happy with the turnout for this rally," Duran said. "There were more people than I expected."
