Dress up part of fun at FaschingTwin City couple places in contestBy FRITZ BUSCH Journal Staff Writer NEW ULM -- A Woodbury couple that visited Bockfest and Fasching for the first time Saturday, placed third in the Fasching costume contest Saturday night at Turner Hall. Vickie and Larry Holz of the Spielmannszug Club of Minneapolis dressed up as "Little Red Riding Hood" and "The Big, Bad Wolf." Becky and Dick Wilbrecht of New Ulm with a Missing 101 Dalmations theme, who have often won the Fasching costume competition, did it again this year. Last year's Miss New Ulm, Jessica Sorenson, finished second, dressed as Lady Liberty (The Statue of Liberty). Sorenson is now studying to become a radiologist at a technical college in Detroit Lakes. Vickie explained why they dressed up that way by saying her husband is always acting like a wolf, so what else would they be? The couple especially enjoyed the beer wagon in the Schell's Brewery Museum since Larry is building one himself. They have attended Oktoberfest in Germany, a German costume ball and other festivals in Milwaukee and visited Heritagefest in New Ulm last year. "It's great," Vickie said about their Saturday in New Ulm. "I appreciate the costumes because I make them myself for our club." Miss New Ulm Princess Sheena Stueber said she enjoyed meeting fest-goers from as far away as Russia, Oklahoma and Nebraska besides the New Ulmites. "It's just a lot of fun," Stueber said. Miss New Ulm Mary Lambrecht said she enjoyed meeting many interesting people.
