Law enforcementruns in theBrennan familyJeremy Brennan joins Sheriff's Department; His dad Tim Brennan is Brown County Sheriff By FRITZ BUSCH Journal Staff Writer NEW ULM -- Jeremy Brennan was sworn in as a deputy for the Brown County Sheriff's Office Monday morning at the Brown County Courthouse. After Judge John Rodenberg gave him the oath of office, Brown County Sheriff Tim Brennan pinned the badge on his son. His mother Carol Brennan of New Ulm, sister Heather Hawkins of Fairmont and Brown County deputies and New Ulm Police officers attended the ceremony. A 1994 graduate of New Ulm High School, Jeremy Brennan worked for several years as a carpet layer before attending the law enforcement program at Alexandria Technical College. He graduated in 2000. Jeremy Brennan became a Sheriff Reserve Officer in 1999. He worked as a part-time police officer in Springfield before becoming a full-time deputy in Sibley County. He worked for the New Ulm Police Department for eight months before joining the sheriff's office. A certified Search and Rescue Diver, Jeremy Brennan has experience in boat, water and snowmobile patrol and transporting prisoners. Along with his wife Kelly (Beranek), Jeremy Brennan said he's glad to be working in the area in which he grew up. Sheriff Brennan said he is proud to have his son as a deputy with Brown County. "He is trustworthy and competent," the elder Brennan said. "He's lived with law enforcement his entire life, has tons of experience and uses good, common sense judgement. I trust him. I'm glad he's married and settled down here. I'm sure we'll work well together. Because he's my son, I'll expect a lot out of him." It isn't the first time the Brennans have worked together. Tim Brennan coached his son's hockey team and the pair later coached hockey together. According to information presented to the Brown County Board when Jeremy Brennan was hired, Tim Brennan did not participate in the hiring process.
