Making a break for itHundreds hunt for eggs, candy despite coldBy FRITZ BUSCH Journal Staff Writer NEW ULM -- Despite the windy, cold weather on Saturday morning, several hundred children and their parents turned out for the annual Easter Egg Hunt at German Park. The hunt began with two and three-year-olds. Organizer Beth Enter, who has endured snow and rain in her 11th year with the egg hunt, asked the tots if they were cold. She told them to stretch and jump to warm up before they charged across the taped off area for the eggs. Four and five-year-olds stretched and jumped before Enter led chants of "we want the bunny" and it appeared. It seemed the bunny was the only creature not affected by the cold. Enter told the story of "Peter Cottontail" to six and seven-year-olds before their hunt began as parents got their cameras going. Last year's hunt, in the sunshine and warmer weather, drew nearly 600 people, Enter said. Still, she was pleased with the turnout for the event, aided by Girl Scout Troop 164 and volunteers from Hy-Vee Foods. A small group of children and their parents posed with the bunny for photographs after the egg hunts as the cold weather got the best of some of the smaller children.
