Spring grants awarded

NEW ULM -- The New Ulm Area Foundation awarded its Spring 2002 grants and scholarships during a luncheon at Turner Hall Thursday.

Grants totaled $15,800, raising the amount of grants awarded since the foundation's inception in 1987 to $154,210. Scholarships totaling $7,500 were given to graduating students at New Ulm High School, Cathedral High School and Minnesota Valley Lutheran High School.

Grants were presented to Brown County Humane Society, $1,000; Council for the Arts in New Ulm, $800; Diocese of New Ulm, $2,000; Healthy Communities/Healthy Youth, $2,000; Heritagefest, Inc., $2,000; Hermann Monument Restoration & Perpetual Maintenance Society, Inc., $300; Network New Ulm Youth Program/New Ulm Area Chamber of Commerce, $500; City of New Ulm, $250; New Ulm Area Chamber of Commerce, $150; Oak Hills Living Center, $2,500; Original German Band of New Ulm, $300; and Putting Green, Inc., $4,000.

Scholarships totaling $5,450 went to New Ulm Public High School seniors Emily Beatty, Sarah Fix, Brittany Gorres, Heidi Gruenhagen, Shannon Johnson, Gregory Laffrenzen, Amanda Rosenau, Tim Smith and Amy Urberg.

Scholarships for Cathedral High School seniors Sarah Baumann, Irene Brennan, Joseph Boyle and Andrea Brandel totaled $1,250. MVLHS senior Katie Hermanson received a $750 scholarship.
