NEW ULM -- Motorcycle enthusiasts converged on New Ulm Saturday as members of the Minnesota Wings Motorcycle Club decorated their bikes and traveled the streets of town for the annual lighted motorcycle parade.

Organizers of the event stated that members of the club are from all over Minnesota and they hold these types of parades in several communities throughout the state each year.

Prior to the parade, about 100 participants gathered at the Brown County Fairgrounds for a 1994 reunion.

"This is an opportunity to gather together with old friends and enjoy showing off our bikes and our hobby," Mike Miller of St. James said.

Miller said he has been involved in the parade for the past three years and has always enjoyed riding his Harley in parades around the state.

"This is our first year to participate in the parade," Crystal Blickem of Madelia said. "We heard about this event and decided to give it a try."

Crystal and her husband Jeff have been riding their motorcycle for the past few years and have traveled about 115 miles this year.

"We rode in the Madelia parade this year and will be traveling to West Virginia on vacation," Jeff said.

Crystal stated that most of the members of their group, consisting of about 10 riders from Madelia and LaSalle are over 40 and are a close knit group.

"We enjoy motorcycling or camping together during the year," she said. "Usually the women set up the gear and the men bring the motorcycles later and we ride around town together."

She stated that they have always enjoyed riding, but became more involved this year.

"This parade was a last minute idea and we like to do spontaneous things," she said.
