County fair starts WednesdayWestern show, band, other events featuredBy MARTHA KRIENKE Journal Staff Writer NEW ULM - For the 136th time, everyone is invited to attend the Brown County Fair in New Ulm beginning Wednesday, Aug. 6. The time has come to pig out on snowcones and cotton candy, pet a few 4-H cows and ride the stomach-turning carnival rides. The premier night features an all-you-can-ride pass for $12 from 6-10 p.m. Admission to the fairgrounds is free at the gate. Thursday is Senior Citizens' Day and Daycare Day. Young and old alike will be entertained by T. Texas Terry's "Wild and Wacky Western Show." Terry Davolt toured three years with the Ringling Bros. Barnum and Baily Circus and has performed at Disneyland in California, Circus-Circus Casino in Las Vegas, and International Festivals in England and Japan. T. Texas Terry's show includes cowboy skills like rope spinning and whip cracking and plenty of audience participation. Davolt is a winner of the National Wild Western Arts Comedy Award and has been named Harrah's Entertainer of the Year. His western show will be presented at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Terry will also emcee the Brown County Talent Contest at 5 p.m. Friday is Kids' Day and includes a Pedal Pull at 1 p.m. for ages 4 to 11. Mutton Bustin' will begin at 3 p.m. where kids 90 pounds and lighter can ride a real live sheep. Friday's evening musical entertainment will be provided by the band Jack Tango from St. Cloud. Jack Tango's music is primarily classic rock and country, but songwriter Charlie Roth said they primarily "play it by ear and read what the crowd wants." Jack Tango has released four CDs since its beginning in 1998. Two were issued under the name "Those Knuckleheads" and includes joke songs and parodies the band has written or collected over the years. "We can play to pretty much any crowd they put in front of us," said Roth. On Saturday, Family Day will bring two entertainment acts rotating every hour from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. "The Games Guy" Greg Kaler's interactive show will kick off the afternoon with non-competitive games from around the world. Audience participants will play games such as volleybird from Brazil, snakeboard from South Africa and jugglestix from China. Doug Wozniak will present his variety show "WOZ" beginning at 2 p.m. Wozniak was an elementary music teacher in Wisconsin for 11 years and has been a musician for 30 years. WOZ is a versatile one-man vaudeville variety act. The show will feature "amazing magical marvels, classical comedy clowing, silly stunt-filled songs, and a jambalaya of jocular juggling." Grandstand events include a demo derby on Wednesday and Saturday, the Midwest Supercross Championship on Thursday and the Triple B Pro Rodeo on Friday. All grandstand events begin at 7 p.m.
