Two

arrested in illicit drug case

NEW ULM -- A New Ulm man and woman were arrested and charged in Brown County District Court Thursday for an alleged felony involving the manufacture of a controlled substance, methamphetamine.

According to law enforcement documents, Brad Robert Grunig, 25, of 1201 S. State St., and Amy Marie Herzog, 23, of the same address were arrested after the caretaker of their apartment building, the Stadt Haus, reported a strange smell coming from a garage rented by the tenants.

The arrests was made by New Ulm police, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, the Brown, Lyon and Redwood County Drug Task Force and canine unit, and the New Ulm Fire Department.

Officers, who entered the building with a search warrant at approximately 6 p.m., seized materials and equipment used to manufacturing methamphetamine.

The Minneapolis Drug Enforcement Center coordinated a clean-up, to ensure the neighborhood's safety.

Grunig and Herzog made their first court appearance Friday. Bail was set at $250,000 for Grunig and $75,000 for Herzog.

The two are being held in the Brown County jail until their next court appearance on Tuesday, August 15.

The charge carries a maximum 30 years in jail and/or a $1,000,000 fine.

The investigation continues under the supervision of the Brown County Attorney's office.
