NEW ULM -- Celebrating the school's 25th anniversary is a major focus for activities at Minnesota Valley Lutheran School during the coming school year, according to Principal Robert Kindworth.

The main celebration will take place Sept. 19-21. Special events and projects will mark the anniversary throughout the year.

The Sept. 19-21 celebration will include an ice-cream social, an all-school tailgate party, a banquet and a special service.

It will also mark the kickoff of a fund-raising drive for a building expansion project, said Kindworth. The goal of the campaign is to raise $1.8 million for expanding locker rooms, building a weight room on the level above them, and adding a multi-purpose instructional and co-curriculum activities center.

If the fund-raising drive succeeds, the school is hoping to break ground for the projects late next spring or early summer, Kindwoth says.

In addition to planning anniversary activities, MVL expects to welcome three new staff members this school year.

The school will also be expanding its curriculum with an elective course for juniors and seniors on parenting and child development.

It is a fairly unique curriculum offering, intended to help students understand the physiology and psychology of children and build child-rearing skills, said Kindworth.
