Two newcomers join

incumbents on District 88 School Board

Nierengarten rises to top in District 88 vote

NEW ULM -- With all precincts in District 88 reporting, unofficial results as of 1:15 a.m. Wednesday indicate that there will be two new faces on the District 88 Board, with incumbent Don Potter losing his seat.

Preliminary totals also include precincts in Nicollet County and Blue Earth County.

Incumbent Don Potter was unseated after receiving 4,321 total votes.

Those retaining their seats will be incumbents Gene Forstner, who received 5,612 votes, and Brian Wieland, who received 5,815 votes, placing him second.

Wieland was the preferred choice in Nicollet County, receiving 897 of the votes, and 62 votes in Blue Earth County.

Forstner came in third place with 626 votes from Nicollet County, and 48 from Blue Earth County.

The third time was a charmer for local attorney Susan Nierengarten, who

came in first with 5,857 total votes.

The second new face on the board will be bookstore owner Sheldon Rieke, who received 5,076 total votes, placing him fourth. Of that amount, 601 were from Nicollet County, and 61 were from Blue Earth County.

Former School Board Member Renee Otis received a total of 4,971 votes, but not enough to push her over the top to defeat Rieke.

Totals for the other candidates were: Barbara Becker, 2,132 votes; Rick Berg, 3,178 votes; Duane Hauser, 1,354 votes; Deborah Hertling, 2,615 votes; and Bruce Schreckenberg, 1,538 votes.
