Quizno's Subs openson South BroadwayBy FRITZ BUSCH Journal Staff Writer NEW ULM -- Quizno's Subs, the fastest-growing restaurant chain in America, opened for business Wednesday at 1525 S. Broadway. New Ulm native Jeff Lindemann owns the business that is the No. 1 Sandwich Chain in Growth in number of U.S. units and U.S. System-wide Sales Growth as of last July. There are more than 2,000 Quizno's restaurants worldwide. Other Minnesota locations are Mankato, Northfield, Red Wing and the Twin Cities area. A Quizno's opens, on average, every 16 hours somewhere in the world, sells a franchise every four hours and signs a lease every 14 hours. The restaurant features 21 oven-baked sandwiches, fresh salads, soups and specialty deserts. Lindemann, a former insurance agent with Citizens Agency in New Ulm, said he was sold on the business after buying a sandwich at Quizno's in Mankato. "The first bite grabbed me," Lindemann said. "I invite everybody to come out and let the products speak for themselves. They're great, very unique and tasty. The heat really brings out the taste in the meat and cheeses." The subs, which include mesquite chicken with bacon, Black Angus steak on rosemary parmesan bread, are hot, toasted and require no frying or grease. Low-fat subs include honey bourbon chicken, turkey lite and Sierra smoked turkey. Soups include clam chowder, broccoli cheese, chili and chicken noodle. Restaurant hours are 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sundays. Call 354-QUIZ (7849).
