Sid's Signs on Broadway moves to new location

NEW ULM -- After 30 years at a previous location, Sid's Signs on Broadway has moved into new, larger digs at the corner of 7th North and North Broadway, across from Hardee's.

But long-time customers of Sid and Jan DeLeo's sign-making business need not fear. It's the same family-operated business featuring quality sign-making as it was at 1021 S. Broadway. Chris DeLeo, their son, also works in the business, but that's the extent of the staff.

"We just were so cramped and short of space at the old location," Sid DeLeo said. "We make just about everything -- all types of signs from electric to neon to wood sandblasted, posters, magnetic ... "

"Billboards," Jan DeLeo adds.

"There's nothing we don't do," Sid continues, "but we just have a little bit more space."

"Sometimes this even gets small!" Jan DeLeo adds.

While they consider it doing business as usual, the DeLeos are expanding their business lines a little bit. You'll be able to everything from pens to jackets that can be personalized with your company's name.

It's kind of a "natural extension of the sign business," DeLeo said.

Also, for the first time, there will be a place where signs can be applied to vehicles indoors. A corner room in the new building serves as a "garage" for their own and client vehicles that are waiting to have signs applied.

The business plans to continue to be as self-contained as possible, Sid DeLeo said.

Right now, Sid's Signs has a few things that are done for them, like the bending of neon sign tubes.

"That's going to come in-house, too," Sid DeLeo promised.

The DeLeos will be showing off their new business home at an open house from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday.

"The community has been good to us," Sid DeLeo says, looking at a large message board festooned with dozens of blue project cards. "We just want to give something back."
