MLC Christmas Concert Sunday

NEW ULM -- Martin Luther College will present its annual Christmas Concert on Sunday, Dec. 16, at 3 p.m. in the Luther Student Center Gymnasium. The public is cordially invited. A free-will offering will be received.

Under the theme "Good Tidings -- Great Joy, " the concert will feature the choirs of MLC: the College Choir conducted by Roger Hermanson, the Chorale conducted by Jodi Hermanson, the Male Choir conducted by Kermit Moldenhauer, and the Treble Choir conducted by Joyce Schubkegel. Individual and joint numbers will be performed. Thu prelude will be provided by the MLC Handbell Choir conducted by Robert Potratz, Nearly 400 singers will participate.

A highlight of the concert will be the presentation of selections from the Christmas portion of Messiah by G. F. Handel, accompanied by orchestra. Choruses included are "For Unto Us a Child is Born," "Glory to God," and "Hallelujah."

The concert will also feature the music of other outstanding composers such as Gustav Holst, F. Melius Christiansen, Paul Manz, Jackson Berkey, Conrad Susa, Michael Praetorius, J. S. Bach, Sergei Rachmaninoff, and Norman Luboff. Familiar carols and songs include "E'en So, Lord Jesus, Quickly Come," "Wake, Awake," "O Jesus Grant Me Hope and Comfort," "Fum, Fum, Fum," "Lo, How a Rose E'er Blooming," "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing," "O Holy Night", and "Silent Night."
