District 88 certifies levy

NEW ULM -- The District 88 School Board, on Tuesday, certified the 2000 levy payable in 2001 at $5,751,602, which reflects a reduction for excess debt service of $336.

Of that amount, the general revenue totals $4,732,218; community service totals $130,198; and debt service totals $889,522.

The board also approved modifications to the contract with New Ulm Bus Lines. The changes clarify financial credit for eliminated routes and bus contract renewal language relating to cost containment.

The board also approved the facility improvement projects totalling $289,300 for the 2001-2002 school year. Those projects scheduled are considered high priority, and include carpet replacement in the annex, $13,000; tennis court cracks sealed and removal of the surface, $10,000; and classroom carpeting in two rooms at Jefferson Elementary School, $4,800.

Projects at the middle school total $168,000 and include replacement of two floor drains; tuckpointing, grouting and caulking around the building; new lighting for the auditorium; and replacement of an exhaust fan in the kitchen.

Projects at the high school total $84,500, and include upgrading of pumps and three heating units, replacement of floor tiles in classrooms, replacement of ceiling tiles in the basement hall, and replacement of floor tiles in the guidance office with carpeting.

Projects at Washington Elementary total $9,000 and include installation of an air circulation system in the copy room and recarpeting in the music room.

The board also awarded a bid to Veit Environmental for $32,100 for asbestos abatement and reinsulation in the basement hallway at the high school.
