Wolverines finish off Dragons in last second

HOWARD LAKE -- Brian Evans hit a three-pointer with one second remaining as Sibley East defeated Glencoe-Silver Lake in the Sub-section 17, Section 5AA championship game Tuesday.

The Wolverines hit 10 straight free-throws in the fourth quarter, including eight straight by Jordan Berg. Berg led the Wolverines with 12 points and Evans scored 11, including three three-pointers.

Jay Stien scored eight for the Wolverines.

Nick Johnson hit two free throws to tie it at 44 for the Dragons. The game was tied at 11 after one quarter and the Dragons led 23-21 at halftime. GSL led 32-31 after three quarters, but the Wolverines grabbed the lead in the fourth and held on at the line.

The Dragons end their season at 16-10.

Sibley East (22-4) plays No. 1 seed Litchfield Friday in the Section 5AA championship at St. Cloud State University.

Litchfield is ranked first in the state for class AA and were 22-2 as of February 26.
